What usually goes wrong with guttering

Most gutter faults come down to a handful of causes. Seals inside the joints perish over the years and start to weep. Brackets work loose or snap, so a length drops and water pools in the low spot instead of running to the outlet. A run can lose its fall after a heavy winter, which leaves standing water sitting along the back of the house.

Left alone, any of these can mean water running down brickwork, damp patches inside, stained render or soil washed away beside the wall. The fix is often small, but it needs doing before the damage spreads.

Why we clear before we repair

A gutter packed with moss and silt can look like it has a broken joint when it is simply overflowing. So the first job is to empty the run and look at it properly. That way you only pay to fix what is really faulty, and the repair isn't hidden under debris that will cause the same overflow a month later.

If moss off the roof is what keeps filling your gutters, we will say so. Sometimes the lasting answer is a roof clean followed by a biocide treatment, rather than repeated gutter visits.
